Acid-ash foods
Dietary guidelines for acid-ash foods
Minimize acid-ash foods
Meat, fish, and poultry of all kinds are considered acid-ash foods. If you have a history of uric acid stones, it is especially important to limit your intake of these foods. This is because high intake of animal protein increases uric acid in the urine, which increases the risk of stone formation. Acid-ash foods can also decrease levels of urinary citrate, an important stone inhibitor.
