Today, as in years past, Mission Pharmacal leads the way in providing innovative therapies with the power to manage stone disease across a wide range of kidney stone patients. These are selective therapies, each designed to correct specific physiochemical abnormalities. Collectively, they represent the state-of-the-art in the medical treatment of nephrolithiasis.
Urocit®-K (potassium citrate)
Inhibits formation of both calcium oxalate and uric acid stones. Urocit®-K is indicated for the management of renal tubular acidosis with calcium stones, hypocitraturic calcium oxalate nephrolithiasis of any etiology, and uric acid lithiasis with or without calcium stones. It inhibits stone formation in more than 90% of patients. And, with a wax matrix delivery system, Urocit®-K is convenient and well-tolerated.
Lithostat® (acetohydroxamic acid or AHA)
Lithostat® is indicated as adjunctive therapy in patients with chronic, urea-splitting urinary infection. AHA reversibly inhibits the bacterial enzyme urease, thereby inhibiting the hydrolysis of urea and production of ammonia in urine infected with urea-splitting organisms. The reduced ammonia levels and decreased pH enhance the effectiveness of antimicrobial agents and allow an increased cure rate of these infections.
Thiola® (tiopronin)
Thiola® is indicated for the prevention of cystine (kidney) stone formation. It is a reducing and complexing compound that reacts with cystine to form a water-soluble mixed disulfide which reduces urinary concentration to below its solubility limit. It is an alternative therapeutic approach for patients with severe homozygous cystinuria with urinary cystine greater than 500 mg/day who are resistant to diet modification and high fluid intake.
Today, we are working on the therapeutic breakthroughs of tomorrow
At Mission Pharmacal, the commitment to kidney stone management has never been stronger. Currently, a robust research effort is moving forward. Exciting new compounds are undergoing clinical evaluation. And they promise to keep Mission Pharmacal in the forefront of therapeutic innovation for years to come.
